Current Clip:

Jean-Pierre Warnier discusses the relationship between regional trading systems and the construction of a community’s political history. He puts the accent on the concept of the Mankon Kingdom’s trading networks with the outside world and explains the role played by trading/bartering in Africa’s highland region in the construction of regional political history. This leads him to the notion of regional geopolitics as a basis for explaining the link between political history and economic history in Africa’s highlands region. He then explains how a community’s material culture gives rise to its historical construction via a comparison with objects from external cultures.
