Michael is currently the UK coordinator for an EC funded programme (European Cultural Heritage on line, under framework 5) which is committed to place all ethnographic collections in European museums on line to form 'virtual collections. This will make them available to non-European partners and will also create the mechanisms for further research exchange and training between them. It is expected to exapand the programme under the probvisions of EC funded framework 6 programme. He is also co-ordinator of a Ghetty funded research programme on innovation and change in the Grassfields region of Cameroon. The focus is on Euopean impoact on material and visual culture from first contact to the present. He is is curently supervising research on indigenous cultural property and cultural rights in Cameron,Mali and Taiwan.; on illicit trade and perceptions of cultural loss; on craft production and tourism in West Africa; postcolonial museums and cultural heritage.
